Platinum Engagement Rings

Platinum is the densest metal in the range and the one that holds a stone most securely. It is worked at a higher purity than gold, usually 950 parts in a thousand, so the colour is the metal itself rather than an alloy and it does not need re-plating the way white gold does.

It is also noticeably heavier on the hand. Some people read that as quality, others find it too present, which is worth knowing before you choose it. You set the stone, the setting and the band width here.

Platinum against white gold

Both read white, but they get there differently. White gold is a gold alloy with a rhodium plating on top; when the plating wears, the warmer tone underneath shows through and the ring can be re-plated. Platinum is white all the way through, so wear shows as a soft patina rather than as a colour change. Platinum costs more and weighs more; white gold is lighter and easier on the budget.

For a claw setting holding a large stone, platinum is the steadier choice, because the claws keep their tension longer.

Made to order

Every ring is made to order in a German goldsmith's workshop and the stones are set by hand. The engraving on the inside is free and delivery is free.
