Studs, hoops or drops
Studs are the pair you can wear every day and sleep in without thinking about them. A single stone in a claw or bezel setting is the version that works with the most outfits. Hoops add movement and draw a line along the jaw; a small hoop reads as everyday, a large one as a statement. Drops give length and suit an updo or an open neckline, and they are the pair that shows most at a distance.
Metal and stone
White gold and platinum keep a white diamond looking bright. Yellow gold is warm and gives coloured stones more depth. Rose gold reads softer than both. Silver is the low entry point when you want to spend more on the stone.
Diamonds return the most light, which is what makes diamond studs work at any distance. Blue sapphire, ruby and emerald bring colour instead of sparkle, and pearls give a soft, matt surface that reads differently again. If the pair is for daily wear, a lower setting will survive scarves and hair better than a raised one.
