Blue sapphire is the hardest coloured stone in everyday use, 9 on the Mohs scale, just below a diamond. That is what makes it a sensible stone for a ring worn daily rather than one kept for occasions.
The blue runs from a light cornflower tone to an almost ink-dark one, and the surrounding metal shifts how you read it. You choose stone, setting, metal and band width here.

Choosing the blue
With coloured stones, colour carries the value rather than clarity. An even, saturated blue across the whole stone reads better than a larger stone with patches. Blue shifts more than most colours between daylight and lamplight, so it pays to look twice.
White gold and platinum keep the blue cool and clear. Yellow gold warms it and softens the contrast. A surround of small diamonds makes a medium stone look larger and adds light.

Every ring is made to order in a German goldsmith's workshop and the stone is set by hand. The engraving on the inside is free and delivery is free.
